The War of Attrition

Stuff from this week.
Mostly process shots from the illustration I did for the pencil jack challenge. Managed to get out and paint from life. I always enjoy doing studies from life, but hardly ever do them.
Composing images isn't someting I'm great at at present, and all of the sketches I had up to the point of producing this rough comp weren't great. But I had the idea of bringing the figures together and making it more of a portrait. I actually like the energy in this comp a bit more than the final.
This was a pretty bare-bones underdrawing. I din't give myself a lot of time, so this stage was cut a bit short. Plus I get quite impacient whilst working from time to time.
So after kind of feeling that my drawing would work, I jumped right into sloshing around watercolour. It was a good time, but in reflection I should have spent longer on the drawing, especially the faces, which I feel are quite weak. I tried to get it right with the ink, but it didn't work. So I had to lick it quite a bit, and turned out too busy in those areas. You can't make up for poor foundations with extra tinsel, or something like that. Also, erase construction lines that you don't need anymore before painting, as your cant lift them from under the watercolour. Or at least, I couldn't here.
And a beach. Well, a tiny crop of a beach.

Random sketches and some studies
Most of this stuff is from the new sketchbook I started from the last week or so. Mostly focuesed on gesture poses, and trying to learn stuff for the predator piece I just put up. I intended to paint and ink the final, but I left it too late. So just went all out with the old pencil!

The Pest Predator
Challenge over at Pencil Jack - Turn Horror Icon into Super Hero. Well, I turned him into a local trade hero, never mind.

Dystopian Society
Another entry for Everbrawl (93). Had a lot of ideas with this one, but struggled a bit to pull it off. I Definitely need to spend more time on the under drawing, and learn how to control water media better. Happy I got it done though :).
